Twenty-four-year-old Alicia “Mima Alicia” Lipata was shot and killed at her home in Barangay 171, Caloocan City, on Thursday. Her live-in partner was injured during the attack.
To ensure an “accurate, thorough, and swift investigation” into Lipata’s killing, the Northern Police District (NPD) activated a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG), named after her nickname, “Mima.”
In several Facebook posts, Mindanao-based opposition activist Lovely Granada claimed that some Duterte supporters were celebrating Lipata’s death.
“Is Mima’s death being used as a weapon against DDS? Just look at your comments and reactions—you want others to follow your example. You are practically celebrating!” Granada wrote on Friday.
DDS stands for Diehard Duterte Supporters, referring to supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Sara Duterte.
“Mima has passed away and is finally at peace, free from this chaotic world. Meanwhile, your father [former President Rodrigo Duterte] is still alive and facing shame before the entire world. From arrogance to imprisonment,” Granada added in another post written in Filipino on Saturday.
Another online blogger, Patrick Aquino, recalled an incident involving Palace Press Officer Claire Castro during the President’s state visit to Canada.

Aquino also mentioned that a vlogger named Iloy Bugris had allegedly offered to send money to those responsible for Lipata’s killing.
“When Attorney Claire was harassed in Canada, a well-known DDS supporter called on people to send information and a GCash number for the person who insulted and shouted at Attorney Claire. Now, regarding what happened to Mima Alicia, Iloy Bugris said in a video that people should message him if they know the identities of the suspects because he wanted to send them money through GCash (those were his exact words) and thank them [for killing her],” Aquino wrote in Filipino on his Facebook page on Saturday.
Aquino further stated that death threats against vloggers have become more widespread since news of Lipata’s killing became public.

“Since reports about what happened to Mima Alicia emerged, death threats against vloggers have become more common. Is this now the new normal in the Philippines? Is a culture of violence and intimidation taking root once again?” he said.
Aquino also called on government officials to take action regarding the killing of Lipata.
