Watch the moment when a lioness in a Paraíba zoo reacts after a man enters her enclosure.
Images show the big cat lying down when she noticed the man inside her habitat; the man had climbed a wall more than six meters high and later died from the injuries caused during the incident.
On Sunday morning (30), a man died after entering the lion enclosure at the Arruda Câmara Zoobotanical Park (Bica) in João Pessoa. The video shows the exact moment when the cat approaches the man.
The footage shows the man climbing the railing of a wall nearly six meters high. The lioness was lying near the protective glass that separates park visitors. When she saw the man inside the enclosure, she ran toward the tree where he was hanging.
At one point, the animal notices the intruder directly in front of her. The man slips from the tree, and the lioness reaches him. Even after the first contact, he stands up and tries to move away. Moments later, he falls, and is no longer visible in the images.

Investigation of the Incident
The João Pessoa City Hall is investigating the death of a man who was attacked by a lioness after entering the animal’s enclosure at the Arruda Câmara Park (Bica).
The victim died due to the injuries sustained during the incident. After his death, the Arruda Câmara Zoobotanical Park was closed by SEMAM (Environmental Secretariat) for removal procedures and investigation.
According to a park veterinarian, the lioness was returned to her enclosure without the use of tranquilizer darts. The park official stated that the animal’s gradual yearly training ensured that she followed commands and safely returned to her protected area.
Professionals at the site reported that the safety barriers are more than sufficient. The enclosure includes protective structures over two meters high, along with an additional 1.5-meter overhang.

The city administration released a statement saying:
“Although security teams tried to prevent the intrusion, the man acted quickly to enter the enclosure and subsequently died from the injuries. The city government expresses condolences to the victim’s family and clarifies that, despite all existing safety measures meeting technical standards, the individual continued the intrusion, which resulted in this unfortunate event.”
