The segment on the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) was supposed to air on Sunday’s episode of “60 Minutes,” but it was broadcast by right-wing CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, who claimed that the story was “not ready” for broadcast despite thorough editing and clearance by key company officials.

“Our story was viewed five times and approved by both CBS and Standards and Practices,” said “60 Minutes” correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi, who reported the segment. “It is factually accurate. In my view, after meeting every rigorous internal check, pulling it now is not an editorial decision—it is a political decision.”

Before CBS released the report, a Canadian network aired the original version of the “60 Minutes” episode containing the CECOT segment. After the broadcast, the segment—still viewable on sites like X—was shared by social media users. Following a copyright claim by CBS’s parent company, Paramount Skydance, the social media posts that aired the segment were reportedly taken down.

A CBS News spokesperson said that “Paramount’s content protection team routinely processes takedown orders for unaired and unauthorized segments.”

Weiss—who founded and still edits The Free Press, which is owned by Paramount Skydance—has faced criticism for other actions, including overseeing the removal of portions of a previous “60 Minutes” interview about potential corruption stemming from President Donald Trump’s family’s massive cryptocurrency profits.
