Call of Duty Creator Vince Zampella Dies in Ferrari Car Crash

Call of Duty co-creator Vince Zampella has died following a Ferrari crash on a Los Angeles highway that ended in a fire, sparking an outpouring of tributes from across the gaming industry.

The gaming world was left stunned after confirmation emerged of the death of Vince Zampella, the key creative force behind the globally popular Call of Duty franchise, who was killed in a tragic car accident in California on Sunday. Zampella was 55 years old. According to officials, the fatal incident occurred on a Los Angeles highway when a Ferrari carrying him and another person veered off the road and struck a concrete barrier, the BBC reported. The impact caused the vehicle to burst into flames within moments, leaving very little chance for rescue.

Authorities stated that there were two people inside the car at the time of the crash. Due to the severity of the collision, the passenger was reportedly ejected from the vehicle, while the driver became trapped inside as the car caught fire. Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are still working to determine who was driving and what caused the vehicle to lose control.

In a statement shared with the media, the California Highway Patrol said the vehicle “left the roadway for unknown reasons, struck a concrete divider, and was fully engulfed in flames shortly afterward.” No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Zampella was widely regarded as one of the most influential minds in modern video gaming. He rose to prominence in the early 2000s as part of the team that created Call of Duty, a franchise inspired by real-world military conflicts that redefined first-person shooters. Since its debut in 2003, the series has sold more than 500 million copies worldwide and has become one of the most profitable entertainment properties of all time, spanning console games, esports, and an upcoming live-action film.

Although Call of Duty brought him global recognition, it was far from his only achievement. Over the years, Zampella was also associated with major titles such as Medal of Honor, Titanfall, and Apex Legends, each of which left a lasting impact on the gaming community.
