Who is Morgan Geyser? A Case Rooted in Mental Spectrum Disorder

Geyser, now 23 years old, had been placed in a group home to continue treatment for a mental spectrum disorder. Along with her co-defendant Anissa Weier, she was charged with attempted homicide stemming from the 2014 stabbing of their friend, Payton Leutner.

At age 12, in 2014, both Geyser and Weier lured Leutner into a forest in Waukesha near Milwaukee, where they stabbed her 19 times.

The girls claimed that the attack was carried out to satisfy the demands of the fictional character Slender Man. In 2017, both were found not guilty due to mental illness or defect and were subsequently sentenced to mental institutionalization.

Weier was sentenced to 25 years but was conditionally released in 2021 under a 25-year commitment order. She was released from electronic monitoring in 2023.

In contrast, Geyser received a 40-year mental commitment.
