On the final night of the Caribbean cruise, cleaning staff discovered the body of 18-year-old Anna Kepner in her cabin, placed under a bed and covered with blankets and a life jacket.

After the grandmother of the 18-year-old girl who was found dead on a Carnival cruise declared her tragic death to be a ‘murder,’ she has now spoken out about the teenager’s final words.

With tearful eyes, Anna Kepner’s grandmother, Barbara, told Good Morning America, ‘She just said, “MeeMaw, I think I’m going to go back to my room for a little while, I’m not feeling well.”’ That was the last thing she ever said to her granddaughter.

The next day, while on a Caribbean cruise with her blended family, Kepner was found by cleaning staff under one of the beds in her cabin, covered with blankets and a life jacket. She had been sharing the room with her 16-year-old stepbrother, who quickly became a suspect in the case.

Authorities recently revealed that Kepner’s cause of death was strangulation by a bar hold — indicating that pressure applied by a hand to her neck caused her to be unable to breathe. She was pronounced dead on November 6.

On the evening she was killed, Kepner told her family that she wasn’t feeling well and returned to her room by herself. Shortly afterward, surveillance footage captured her stepbrother and younger siblings entering the room.

After that, the younger sister left the room, leaving Kepner alone with her stepbrother. She was never seen on camera again after leaving the room.

This week, Kepner’s grandmother, Barbara, spoke to Good Morning America about this unimaginable tragedy, admitting that authorities have implicated her stepson in the young woman’s death.

They were like siblings; he was a good student,” she shared. “He played football and was a very quiet boy.” However, Barbara also noted that the unnamed youth had “demons in his past and was struggling to deal with them.”

She revealed that investigators broke him down during questioning. She added, “I heard him say in his own words that he doesn’t remember what happened.” “(During his police interview), he was emotional, he couldn’t speak, he couldn’t believe what had happened,” she added.

However, Barbara noted that at the time of Kepner’s death, her stepbrother was the only person in her room, and ‘he was the only one seen coming and going.’ ‘I can’t blame him because I don’t know what happened in that room, but the bottom line is that he did something,’ she said.

At her memorial, Kepner’s ex-boyfriend, Josh Tieu, made a shocking claim against her stepbrother, alleging that he had tried to pressure her a few months before her death.

The stepbrother was arrested shortly after Kepner’s death but was later released. Investigators are examining his potential involvement in the case.
