Online posts claimed that the man from the eastern city of Nanjing lured 1,691 different men to his home for sexual encounters, which he then recorded and distributed online.
On Tuesday, the Nanjing district police confirmed the video-sharing incident in a statement. They said the cross-dressing individual, whose surname is Xiao, was detained on Sunday on suspicion of distributing obscene content.

However, police clarified that Xiao is 38 years old, not 60 as some social media posts had claimed. They also denied that he had intimate encounters with over a thousand men, though no specific number was provided.
Attempts to contact Xiao for comment were not immediately successful.
In China, homosexuality was decriminalized in 1997, but the distribution of sexually explicit content remains illegal.
Recording and sharing sexual activities in private settings also violates privacy rights and can be considered a criminal offense.

Many social media users expressed concerns about public health, with one Weibo user warning that the incident could be a “major headache” for epidemic prevention authorities.
Social media users also circulated headshots of about 100 men believed to have met with “Red Uncle,” prompting some to jokingly suggest that women check if they have photos of their fiancés or husbands.
"Attacks on personal privacy are absolutely prohibited," one user cautioned, warning that such compilations being made public is highly irresponsible.
