The Los Angeles Dodgers secured a narrow 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres on Friday night at Dodger Stadium, bringing both teams to a 69-53 record and tied atop the National League West.

The Dodgers took their first lead in the third inning when Shohei Ohtani’s fielder’s choice and a Mookie Betts sacrifice fly brought in two runs. Teoscar Hernandez added a solo home run in the seventh to extend the lead to 3-1.

The Padres had initially taken an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, thanks to a home run by Ramon Laureano. San Diego narrowed the gap in the eighth with a sacrifice fly from Luis Arraez, bringing home Jose Iglesias. The Dodgers’ bullpen, led by Alex Vesia and Blake Treinen, managed to contain the Padres’ late threat.

Both teams entered Friday with strong recent form—Dodgers had lost six of their last ten games, while the Padres had won eight of ten. The teams will face off again on Saturday, with the winner set to take the sole lead in the division.

This closely contested matchup highlighted Kershaw’s pitching, timely hitting from the Dodgers’ lineup, and the ongoing battle for NL West supremacy between these division rivals.
